Safe Boating Is No Accident is an art folk band from Denver that’s absolutely worth listening to. Their lyrics are beautiful. Their sounds are fascinating. Their arrangements are tasteful.
“The People That Surround You” is haunting, honest, and sincere. “Cancer Wing” is a bit more up-tempo without being a bit less lyrically gripping with its chorus about being lonely, living lonely, and dying lonely. “My Fever Dream” extremely lo-fi and short, but that’s totally appropriate. “Sequins In The Sun” finishes up Safe Boating Is No Accident’s BandCamp page with more electricity than any other track and contains the album title, “I Am A Manticore (You’re Made Of Glass)” in it’s lyrics. “Who Will Marry You?” finishes up the album with a touch of cynicism and continues the beautiful lyric crafting. This one is probably my favorite track on the album. Lines like “I found Jesus. He reads magazines.” and “Who will marry you? I hope it’s the priest that buries you.” just can’t be beat. Great lyricists are way too hard to find in the sea of music that is our mass media, information filled culture.
All of these songs are written with such honesty that you can’t help but enjoy them. Don’t listen to this album passively. Wait until you can really listen to the lyrics without thinking about anything else. If you can find them playing a show, I’m sure this band would be especially great live. Safe Boating Is No Accident is a terrible band name, but Safe Boating Is No Accident is a great band.
