People in the Denver area have quite a few opportunities to see some pretty stellar concerts this summer. Here are just a few highlights from the Denver music scene you might want to check out in the upcoming months; you might want to purchase tickets here.
U2 with The Fray
If you can manage to get tickets to this show on May 21, it’s sure to be one of the best of the year. U2’s 360 Tour is now the most successful tour in history, and to be a part of it may include being a part of this decade’s biggest live event ever. Of course, The Fray is pretty awesome, too, but if Bono and co. were in town, I’d definitely pawn something to go. They’ll be at INVESCO Field.
Katy Perry
….is adorable, as I’ve recently established. She’s also going to be at the 1st Bank Center on July 26. You can hear her sing your favorites, from “Hot N Cold” to “Teenage Dream” at the show. Maybe you’ll even see fireworks—if not live ones, then with your sweetie, of course.
Bruno Mars
I hadn’t heard of this guy until I heard a couple of his songs on Glee, and when I looked him up I found that he, too, was adorable. I love his “I Think I Wanna Marry You,” and who doesn’t smile when they hear “Just The Way You Are”? Grin like an idiot as you hear Mars croon these and other songs at the 1st Bank Center on May 29. Janelle Monae will also be performing.
B.B. King
Wow, who wouldn’t want to hear B.B. King sing one of his classics, like “The Thrill is Gone” or “How Blue Can You Get?” You can see him live at the Denver Botanical Gardens on August 21.
Tim McGraw
McGraw is one of the handful of country singers that I actually enjoy. His “Everywhere” is so gorgeous, and one of the most relatable songs ever written; who doesn’t see the person that got away everywhere they go, after all? And “Where the Green Grass Grows” is pretty much my ideal lifestyle, even if I’d rather not do it with straw in my teeth or a Bible thumping on my knee. (I am an Missourian, after all.) Tim’s going to be performing at the Comfort Dental Amphitheater on August 5.
Def Leppard and Heart
This tour is going all over the country, and it’s the one that I’m dying to see this summer in my own area. Def Leppard will always be one of the most iconic bands of the 80s, and their songs are pretty much the symbols of having a good time and just playing your music loud—things we don’t seem to really get on these days since we’re just too damn plugged in. And Heart—oh, Heart is a band after my own heart. Nancy and Anne Wilson’s songs could be the soundtrack to my life, and I can associate a major event with each and every one. They weren’t exactly of my generation, but once my aunt gave me a Heart album (I was nine, I think, maybe ten), there was no going back. If I can’t go, please go to this concert for me; it’ll be at the Comfort Dental Amphitheater on August 29.
