My Body Sings Electric

My Body Sings Electric

So, this band is out of the kind of genre that I normally listen to, but they are absolutely doing it well. I used to be reasonably into Thrice, The Mars Volta, and Circa Survive, but those times have left me. My Body Sings Electric lists all of those bands (plus Glassjaw and Dance Gavin Dance) in the “Artists we also like” section of their Facebook page.

Their most recent single “Doctor” reminds me of the catchiness of Circa Survive style rock that I used to love. “She wants to be a doctor!” will surely be stuck in my head as I lie in my bed tonight and try to sleep. That’s good. Ultra-catchiness is hard to pull off.

Their previous full-length album, Changing Colors, is equally catchy. My favorite track is probably “The Awful Truth”. It’s a little more Cursive at moments than Thrice, but it keeps all that beautiful lead guitar work that’s required in this genre.  This song sounds quite a bit more mature than the rest of the album. Also, don’t get me wrong about the Cursive comparison. I love Cursive.

According to their Facebook, My Body Sings Electric is influenced by full whiskey bottles, half empty whisky bottles, and empty whiskey bottles. Denver natives Brandon Whalen, Nick Crawford, Jeff Fedel, Jason Bower, and Ben Scarboro are throwing an arguably non-native pop rock style into Denver, and they’re excited about it. They’ve had some recently successful shows, local radio play, and statewide recognition in KTCL 93.3’s “Hometown for the Holidays” competition. Be sure to check them out.
