Song of the Day: Neil Halstead, "Paint A Face"

Song of the Day: Neil Halstead, "Paint A Face" now has a series called "Song of the Day."  Some of the songs you may have heard, others you may have not.  This series will try to help you, the music fan, in finding some new artists, or give you a chance to listen to a song you've hopefully already grown to love.  It will also bring an opportunity to buy some CD's, and give the information you'll need to see some of the featured artist's shows when they come around your area.

Colorado is very fortunate to be a fixture for many talented musicians as they make their way across the country on tour, and has incredible venues in which music fans can see shows, like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Ogden Theatre, the Denver Fillmore, the Bluebird Theater, the Fox Theatre, and the Boulder Theater, to name a few.  Many of the songs will be by artists who will be making their way to the venues near you.

Also, if you have a song you'd like to see as the "Song of the Day" leave it at the comment section of this page or send me a Facebook message, or contact me via Twitter.  Also, "Like" the Denver Music Facebook Page for you chance to get a free ticket to the sold-out June 15th, Mumford and Sons show at the Fillmore, in Denver.  I'll do my best to accommodate your song requests.  I hope you like the new series, and enjoy their music as much as I do.

Today's "Song of the Day" comes from the talented, singer/songwriter, Neil Halstead, with his song, "Paint A Face," off the album, Oh! Mighty Engine, through Jack Johnson's record label, Brushfire Records.  Halstead recorded some of the record at The Solar Powered Plastic Plant in Los Angeles, and the rest in his hometown of Cornwall, England.  According to his friend, Emmett Malloy, "He (Halstead) surfed in the morning, and then drank beer and recorded with various friends in the evening," and went on to add, "Neil is an old soul and his newest solo record is exactly who he is.  Welcoming, warm, clever and kind."

One can't go wrong with that combination, and his music holds those same ideals.  "Paint A Face" is one, of many, great songs on his album, and Denver Music is proud to be able to feature the it.

Lyrics always catch my ear, and these words find their place in the song, "Paint A Face,"

"Try to get the colors right
And I'll paint you face she said
Cause life is on the outside babe
And you got to try and get it right

Buy a ten-dollar camera
take a picture of everyone
Cos people change
Yeah they change
Changing everyday

And I don't want to be the one that you don't recognize
I don't want to be the one that's left behind

Got a broken car yeah got a selfish heart
Running down the road
With a jukebox in my head
Funny how I got to here
I don't remember how
I just want to live somewhere where the air is sweet and clear

And I don't want to be the one that you don't recognize
I don't want to be the one that's left behind."
